Arlington, VA, June 25, 2008 - SIGAL Construction Corporation is currently providing fast-track construction services for the Ward 3 Aquatic Center (formerly known as the "Wilson Pool") for the District of Columbia Office of Public Education Facilities Modernization. SIGAL is currently working with the project Owner as well as Hughes Group Architects to complete the design as construction starts.
SIGAL and Hughes Group are working in a design-build capacity to complete the approximately 54,000 square foot new aquatic facility. The completed project will include a 50-meter competition lap pool as well as a shallower play area, adult whirlpool, spectator seating for 475 people, a safety center, multipurpose rooms as well as administrative offices.
During the preconstruction phase, the deteriorated existing building is being demolished and hazardous material abatement is being performed.
SIGAL is also pleased to announce that this project is pursuing Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for New Construction (LEED-NC) Silver certification through the US Green Building Council. Potential sustainable aspects to the project include photovoltaic panels, natural lighting and ventilation systems, energy and water efficient fixtures, and non-toxic materials. The project's LEED program is currently being finalized in the design/preconstruction phase.
This project is currently projected to complete in summer of 2009.
